Sandplay and Symbol Work - $33
By Mark Pearson & Helen Wilson A.C.E.R., Vic 2000
This is the first Australian book on the subject. Sandplay and symbol work are powerful therapeutic tools. They access, and allow expression of, the inner world of the client. Unlike more cognitive or behavioural therapies, sand and symbols can reveal unconscious processes and dilemmas and bring them into a representational form that permits some resolution. In this book the authors outline the history of sandplay and fully explain how to adapt the techniques to clients from all age groups and in different professional settings. Detailed and careful instructions are given for facilitating the work. Most of the book is a step-by-step description of the range of exercises that can be used by counsellors. Case histories illustrate the applications of these methods.

Emotional Release For Children - Repairing The Past, Preparing the Future - $33
By Mark Pearson & Patricia Nolan A.C.E.R., Vic. 1995
This practical book introduces the principles and methods of Emotional Release Counselling, as used with children and adolescents. It is full of innovative strategies to relieve emotional stress in children and adolescence, develop emotional balance and open the way for expression of their full potential. It provides background information on dealing with children’s emotions, and on using the exercises for work with individual children or groups.
This sequel to Mark and Patricia’s highly successful Emotional First-Aid For Children explains how children with negative or repressed feelings from hurtful past experiences may become disruptive or withdrawn, have low self-esteem and poor peer group relations, or suffer learning difficulties. In children, painful feelings are often expressed in the body, and many of the exercises work on the psychosomatic whole, to bring about muscular relaxation as well as emotional release. Underlying the information, advice and exercises in this book is the belief that beneath painful emotion lies basic health, which can be reclaimed if given the right conditions.
“Emotional Release for Children is an important guide for parents, teachers and mental health professionals. Here is a wonderful guide, clearly written, to help those of us who live and work with children. I highly recommend this fine book.”
- Violet Oaklander, Ph. D. author of Windows on our Children.
